The Porsche Boxster S 718 is a profound update of the previous spider. They change headlights, bumpers, mudguards, handles, mirrors. In practice, only the two hoods are the same (from which you access the practical front and rear trunk, equally valid). “Under the skin” the changes concern the update of the suspension, the steering (which has become more direct) and the brakes that have been increased (those of the “S” derive from 911).
But the most striking novelty in Porsche Boxster S 718 is the adoption of turbo four-cylinder boxer engines, in place of the previous six aspirated cylinders. Here is also explained why the name 718 Boxster: the initial number refers to the 718 Spyder that in the 50s and 60s with its four-cylinder (in that case was not turbo) won races like Le Mans and the Targa Florio. The performance of the new model is breathtaking, and only the rusty “voice” of the new engines (especially the 2.5 “S”, which also has a variable geometry turbine) makes regret the much more melodious “song” of the six cylinders of the old generation.
Exhilarating also the behavior between the curves: the steering of Porsche Boxster S 718 is ready, the road holding very high as the stability in the rapid changes of trajectory. The cockpit (revised in the dashboard and multimedia system) confirms sporty and well finished, but the equipment has some slip: “trivial” devices, like the “climate” bizona are charged separately.
