The updated version of the Mercedes S-Class, the largest and most luxurious of the Mercedes sedans, stands out for its different bumpers and for the new LED headlights, but the most important innovations are “under the skin”. Here come the 6-cylinder engines in fresh design line fueled by diesel (286 or 340 horsepower) and petrol (367 or 435 hp). Also new are the petrol-fueled V8s that deliver 469 hp or, in the case of the AMG sports car, 612 horses.
Other novelties concern the further improved driving systems, which allow the Mercedes S-Class to manage the steering by itself to follow the road or overtaking independently. And, to further increase comfort, the Wellness package is available: coordinating various functionalities (from the interior lighting, with 64 color tones, to the massage, ventilation and heating modes of the front seats, to air conditioning, to music and to the perfume) in a more or less relaxing way according to the wishes of the passengers, transforms the cockpit into a wellness center. For the rest, the sumptuous interior of the Mercedes S-Class is also airy confirms in the rear area (especially for the L versions with the wheelbase from 303 cm to 317), made with quality materials and widely customizable.
The driving position of Mercedes S-Class with all the desirable settings is convenient and the instrumentation consisting of two 12.3-inch TFT displays makes a “great impression” (and provides a lot of information). Unique notes, the electronic handbrake lever at the bottom, on the left side of the dashboard, is barely visible and unreachable by passengers. The lid of the space that acts as an armrest between the seats is also not very practical: it is so large that when it is opened it is an obstacle. Despite being a “big car”, agility in the guide is very respectable and comfort is very high. The 612 horsepower AMG version has exuberant performance, but remains comfortable. The new 340 hp 6-cylinder diesel impresses with fluidity and promptness.
