Ferrari 488 Spider contains two cars: a fascinating spider with sinuous shapes and, closing the retractable metal roof, a very bad coupé.
The refined solution of the hardtop (which is anything but easy for a car with a central rear engine) is picked up by the previous Ferrari 458 Italia Spider, but with one more advantage: in the Ferrari 488 Spider you can drive with the car in movement up to 45 km/h. The weight increase compared to the coupe (the Ferrari 488 GTB) is only 50 kg (25 less than a solution with a soft top), among other things close to the center of gravity, so do not disturb the behavior of the car in the curves.
And in fact the performance is equal to those of the Ferrari 488 GTB, which mounts the same twin-turbo V8 from 669 horses and 760 Nm of torque. Obviously in this case the gritty diamond feels even better. Identical refined technical solutions concerning aerodynamics (such as the electronically controlled flap under the car or the “blown” rear spoiler, a Ferrari patent).
The electronics of Ferrari 488 Spider also heavily enters the management of driving dynamics, but without removing a bit of pleasure to the “rider”: changing the position of the manettino you change the response of the seven-speed double clutch robotized gearbox (made even faster than 40 % compared to the 458), self-locking differential, traction system and other controls. The carboceramic brakes are very powerful. Icing on the cake, the seven years of free ordinary maintenance (like other standard Ferrari).
