The elegance and style of Maserati are now a universally recognized symbol. Even in more recent times, where the philosophy of “once upon a time” prevailed among many fans, the Modenese Trident cars managed to maintain incredibly high quality and stylistic standards, even when other competitors were struggling more. The GranTurismo and the GranCabrio are relatively recent products of the brand: the first was officially presented in Geneva in 2007, while the second, obviously conceived as an open variant of the sister, arrived just two years later in Frankfurt. It’s been seven years now and as these two cars did not really need a big change, in Modena they decided to present the two facelift versions for the collection next year, helped by the fact that the components of the two cars are almost identical. So here we went in Brescia, along the shores of Lake Iseo and then through the streets of this fascinating area of Lombardy, capable of balancing industrial verve with nature and history. Exactly like the GranCabrio MC that has been entrusted to our care, perfect synthesis of a car with a distinctive elegance and extreme sportiness.
The GranCabrio is available in two variants: the MC, which is what you can see in our photo shoot and the exclusive video test drive, and the Sport. These two differ mainly in terms of set-up, the more extreme the first and the more refined the second, also because mechanically speaking we are talking about the same unit: under the hood, in fact, the powerful V8 from 4,700 cc built by the “cousins” Ferrari, capable of delivering a maximum power of 460 hp and a torque of 520 Nm available at a speed of 4,750 rpm. All controlled by a six-speed automatic transmission created by the ZF, which can also be controlled by the prominent paddles behind the steering wheel, fixed on the steering column but easily accessible almost with each gradation of steering precisely due to their size. With such a system the GranCabrio is attested according to official data of a 0-100 completable in just 4.9 seconds, while the maximum speed reaches 291 km / h. Not bad for a car that, given the body, is proposed primarily as a tourist vehicle.
